A single bayberry leads to a multimillion dollar business.

In the early 1900s, school teacher Mabel Baker began crafting candles from the wild bayberries that grew in her native town Cape Cod.

At first, Mabel gave them as gifts to family and friends, but they proved so popular that she realised her passion for candles could become more than a simple hobby. With a lot of persistence and hard work, by 1909 Mabel had a flourishing business.

When she passed at the age of 94 in 1965, what had begun with a single bayberry had become a company worth $6 million!

She was PartyLite’s first entrepreneur.

Mabel’s legacy continues to inspire.

In 1973 Mabel’s candle business set up a companion company to help women work outside the home. The office of three people created a sales model for sharing the company’s profits with the salespeople. And this continues to drive PartyLite’s success today.

Today, Mabel continues to be our role model for success.
